I've stayed in the Traders 6 or 7 times on work trips. It's wonderful- extremely helpful and welcoming staff, who take pride in giving a personal service. If you want a sun-and-sea holidy, you might prefer the Shangri-La, but the Traders is central for business and 'real life' Penang. Turn left out of the main door and visit the Komtar Centre or a modern shopping mall, or turn right, go up two escalators, and visit a real Malaysian market. A few yards more takes you to Penang Road which is full of real people buying and selling all manner. It's quite an experience- sights, sounds and smells! For the tourist things you can go on an organised trip, and a shuttle bus (no charge) runs between the Traders and the beach.
I had a club room with lounge access. It had a king size bed, a wardrobe, minibar and coffee tray, chest of draws with television on top, desk with chair, suitcase stand, bedside tables, sofa and coffee table. I find it hard to criticise in the light of the prices.- 23-May-2008 |
