Some of the rooms in the Baldwin Hotel are alongside an alley that is used for garbage collection and storage of recycling bins. If you like sleeping with the window open, be prepared to hear glass being disposed off by the various bars/restaurants very late at night. These recycling bins are picked up every morning around 6:00 AM(except weekends), requiring 2 or 3 trucks to back-up (with the typical beeper echoing in the alley) to collect the contents of the bins. The end of the alley is a facing a parking garage (typically 1 or 2 car alarms seem to go off spontaneously each night). It takes a few nights to get used to this. For the rest the hotel is fine. Complementary coffee is available til late at night.- 26-Aug-2008 No frills hotel in a good location - just in front of the China gate. The room and bathroom were clean but the towels had black stains (twice). The heating pipes were quite loud and you can also easily hear people in other guest rooms. However, the price/value is unbeatable.- 19-Dec-2007 Great value for money. It's an older hotel, but has been renovated/refurbished. Very quiet. Location just a few steps to Chinatown, and only 2 or 3 blocks to union square. Would have been nice to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room, but that's only a small reservation. Highly recommended, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.- 25-Nov-2007 |
