 Great Hotel. Good facilities. Hospitable staff. Caring. Old world charm - lot of woodwork. Good restaurants. Needs a touch up while maintaining its present ambience. Best hotel in Sri Lanka.- 21-Feb-2009 Were lucky enough to be up graded. The size was amazing after being only in a small bedroom previous hotel.- 27-Feb-2008 A great 5 star hotel, in the centre of Colombo. Comparable with the nearby Hilton, the Taj is THE place to have your wedding reception if you are Sri Lankan, with 2 or 3 weddings a day there during our stay. Location was excellent, although a few minutes further from the centre than the Hilton, but did have excellent sea views which the Hilton didn't. Rooms were clean and spacious, if slightly delapidated (and we were on the recently renovated floor) with the odd bit of paint peeling, and the door to our bedroom looked like it had been cut for a completely different doorway. But that seems to be the way in Sri Lanka. Staff were friendly, minibar prices not too bad, and a great choice of restaurants. Huge free breakfast buffet is to be recommended. We left at 4am and the staff packed a breakfast box for us and added the taxi to our bill as we had no cash.
At the end of the day, it's a Taj hotel, so you expect the best. And it just about lived up to it's name. A pleasurable stay! - 08-Aug-2006 |
