Suva is Fiji’s largest city and also happens to be the capital. Suva is situated on the island of Viti Levu, home of one of Fiji’s two airports. The area’s economy revolves around sugar cane and tourism. In recent years, political unrest has threatened the tourism base, but things are beginning to once again improve in this area. The country of Fiji is known for its beautiful beaches and stunningly clear waters.
Hotel lodgings in Suva vary from those in the heart of the city to those nearer to the coast. Capricorn Apartments Suva offers inexpensive lodging within walking distance of the city center, while area stores and Fiji Museum are both nearby. Raffles Tradewind Hotel Suva is on the waterfront closest to the ferries heading to other islands. Close from the array of budget accomodation available, Tanoa Plaza Suva is in the city center near the business center, restaurants, bars, shops and other great discounted hotels.
Believe it or not, Fiji is involved heavily in rugby. Named its national sport, the country has played in four world cups, including the 2007 Rugby World Cups. Education is excellent in this area, as Suva is home to the University of the South Pacific and the Fiji School of Medicine. With two colleges, there is a better influx of bars and nightclubs in this area.
