Good budget hotel located close to San Marco Square. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Instructions fo find the hotel were vague and we found these alternative directions were more helpful - From main station terminal catch the number 1 or 82 ferry down Grand Canal to S. Maria d.Giglio stop. Walk down the narrow passageway (C. Gritto d. Campanile) to Campo S. Maria del Giglio square. Turn left, cross 2 small bridges over canals then walk stragiht ahead approx 50 metres along C.Zaguri and hotel is on the right side. - 05-Aug-2006 The San Maurizio hotel is centrally located, but as we found out, the center is not where you want to be in Venice. Venice is so small that staying near San Marco is not only unnecessary, it's rather a bad idea. The restaurants are far more expensive and supply rather bland, disgusting fare designed clearly for tourists, and the flavor of Venice is lost among the throngs of tourists who are your only compatriots in this part of town. The hotel itself was fine,. Tiny rooms but clean and charming--keep your windows shut at night to avoid being bitten alive.- 25-Apr-2006 |
