San Jose is considered the newest capital city in Central America. After becoming a capital in 1823, San Jose has gone on to become on of the most important tourism hubs in Central America. The weather is sublime! Though humid, the average temperatures range from 59 to 80ºF year round. Rain falls more prevalently from April to November, while the rest of the year is the perfect time to visit.
There are three areas that tourists will enjoy. San Jose is a college city—University of Costa Rica is located in the city, so a flux of younger adults is common throughout the year. Calle de la Amargura is closest to the university, so this is where the younger crowd tends to hang out when college is in session. Discos and bars populate the area. El Pueblo’s cobblestone streets are home to dozens of restaurants, stores, and bars—this is one area were the majority of tourists spend their day. Heredia is surrounded by some of the area’s greatest bars and nightclubs. and conveniently located close by are some fantastic cheap San Jose hotel accomodation choices for visitors.
When looking for San Jose accommodation, it is important to stay out of the reputably more dangerous neighborhoods. Options in the heart of the city are best. Clarion Amon Plaza is near the major shopping and cultural attractions. Balmoral Hotel is downtown near the business district and excellent restaurants. Finally, to be close to the museums, check out Occidental Torremolinos San Jose .
