For the size of the Commerce Room it was too expensive. It was very compact and they definitely needed to have a flat screen TV just to fit in the room. And the smallness of the room was made worse by the fact that the windows were rather high up and you couldn’t see much out of them. I’ve had a much bigger room in another 4 ½ star hotel in the city for about $40 less.
That said the staff at the Concierge Desk were very nice and helpful but there was one women who came to the room to check the mini bar who was hard to understand and a bit rude so definitely put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door.
The food was very nice and the staff in The Grill restaurant down stairs were extremely nice and helpful.
Overall the hotel was nice, stylish, clean, in an excellent location and with friendly staff but overpriced especially for a hotel that doesn’t have as many facilities as some hotels, such as a pool. If you get a Commerce Room expect a small room.- 12-Apr-2008 This was our first visit to Melbourne and we chose this hotel mainly for its location as it is so central and it didn't disappoint in this respect. My only complaint was how small our hotel room was. This was by far the smallest hotel room I have ever experienced anywhere in the world. Be sure to book one of the refurbished Commerce rooms rather than the deluxe room like i did to ensure a good sized room. The fire alarm was also set off at 2 in the morning on the saturday night which i'm assured is rare but I didn't really appreciate being woken out my sleep and having to walk down so many stairs in my nightie, especially as i am heavily pregnant. Anyway those gripes aside, the hotel is in a great location, the service was very good and all the whole we enjoyed our stay there.- 27-Feb-2008 Stayed in the hotel with friends and we were very impressed. Great location, very clean, excellent breakfast and very helpful and friendly staff. Will certainly use the hotel again when we next visit Melbourne
