The Protea Kruger Gate Hotel Skukuza is located only 100 metres from the Paul Kruger Gate of the Park, and is only 30 minutes' drive from Hazyview or an easy 4 hours drive from Johannesburg.  An excellent hotel let down by noise levels from outside the rooms early in the morning. The wooden structure with timber decking causes sounds to be transmitted through. The trolleys used by the staff have solid wheels which clatter across the divides, staff chatter and the sound of heels are also carried this way.
Rubber wheels and staff discipline may alleviate this anomally but will not eradicate it. The hotel in general is a superb destination, this minor gripe is bearable given the rustic setting. I always use Protea hotels when in South Africa and have done so for the last twenty years.- 18-Aug-2009 |
