This hotel is a magnificent, grand 1907 building that is half-way through a long restoration process. It is an extraordinary place with a totally unique character. The location may put some people off- it's about 1km south of the city centre, in a desolate area of warehouses and empty streets. However, it's merely a 10 minute walk or 3-minute bus-ride to the centre, and five minutes walk from the emerging art quarter of Derritend.
The cooked breakfasts were a little greasy, but a good supply of fruit, cereal and cakes is of course on offer. Generally, the staff were very positive to deal with.
The hotel burns a lot of lights and needs to change to low-energy bulbs.
This is not a standard city-centre hotel but for those who appreciate the atmosphere of a stunning, eccentric building, it is an absolute find. - 05-Sep-2008 The hotel itself is very nice, although the surrounding industrial and residential area is somewhat 'depressed'. I made sure my car was safely locked in the overnight car park.- 05-Jun-2008 Very good hotel for what you pay. It doesnt look great as you enter the hotel and go along the corridors, but the rooms themselves were absolutely clean and tidy. No noise at night or anything. Not a great area, but very close to city centre. Service was fine. Pricing is extremely reasonable. Prompt taxi service available from the hotel.
Had a pint in the bar, it was a bit flat though!- 26-Mar-2008 |
