While New Delhi was not always the capital city, New Delhi had been the country’s political center. In the 1900s, the government approved a change to name New Delhi as capital city and a new section of town was built. New Delhi is on the Gangetic Plains so the scenery here can be much different to what some might expect. The temperatures are lower than in other areas thanks to the higher elevation and northern location. Monsoon season does occur in this area, usually in July and August. New Delhi does have a highly praised subway system with more than 40 miles of subway lines. If the subway is unappealing, auto rickshaws are also available and use compressed natural gas as their means of fuel.
