I found the hotel to be an unusual but really lovely high quality and relaxing place in the heart of bustling York. I would recommend it to anyone but would prefer to keep it a secret just in case I wish to revisit and find it fully booked.- 21-Mar-2007 The hotel is in a good quiet location within city walls and walking distance from train station and city centre. The hotel's interior's need to be renovated. The carpets from reception through to the rooms are awful. The stairwell actually smells of rising damp, and well worn down. The bedrooms are adequate and a good size but furnished like a bad 1980 fitout and not worth the money asked. The tv reception was apalling. The bed was sagging and hurt my partner's bad back. The ensuite walls are covered with an imitation pink marble hardboard panels, floor was same board but imitation timber. I was grateful that the ensuite flooring was not carpet. The shower over the bath was absolutely wonderful with plenty of good pressure and hot water. The bedroom floor creaked in many places, the neighbouring room's door lock was difficult to open and a noisy event each time they opened it.
The younger staff were pleasant, while the older few rarely made eye contact and abrupt when engaged. - 30-Nov-2006 |
