 The room was basic but very clean. Good lighting in the bathroom and those crazy hairdryers that hotel's always have attached to the wall actually worked! The heating worked too.
I requested a double and got two twin beds pushed together. They did tend to drift apart...
Our room faced the street and I've read reviews which complained about the street noise. If, like me, you live on a busy road in London, then the traffic was bearable. The hotel was quite a reasonable walk from the river, although had it not been freezing and pelting with rain it might have seemed much closer. But it was easy to get there on the Metro.
The staff were very nice too. For the price I was very impressed.- 11-Dec-2007 The Father and Sons are the friendliest inn-keepers you will find in any country! If you learn the short-cut, you are only a 1 1/2 blocks away from Gare du Nord (turn right out of the hotel, up Blvd. Magenta, veer right at first intersection onto Rue St. Denis 1 block, across the cobblestone plaza into the station at the Eurostar connection point). Three convenient bus lines also stop nearly in front of the hotel (#30 takes you right to Etoile Charles DeGaulle and the Arc de Triomph), and the Metro is right by the Station.- 09-Oct-2007 The standard of this hotel far surpasses its 2 star rating.
